Todos Santos XIII Annual Art Festival – 2010

Craving entertainment? Todos Santos is the place to be January 30 through February 6, 2010. The Todos Santos Art Festival pays tribute to the rich cultural history of Mexico and celebrates past and present artistic creation.

Visual and performing arts are the focus of this wonderful free event. Music, dance, theater, literature, painting, and craft exhibitions fill the pueblo from ten in the morning until late at night throughout the week. Lectures and educational programs are also on tap.

Colorful costumes and music will delight you at the more than ten different dance performances. Folkloric ballet, Polynesian, Colombian, African, popular, and pre-Hispanic dance performances will be presented.

Special performances of classical guitar, chamber music, and South American music will be given.

Five plays are scheduled, including one children’s play.

Indie films and film festival award winners will be shown throughout the week. These include international productions by such directors as Morgan Spurlock (Sundance Film Festival), Duncan Tucker (Tribeca Film Festival), and Curtis Hanson. All films are in English with Spanish subtitles.

You can attend exhibitions of painting, photography, and regional crafts. These expositions open daily at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Works by regional artists and craftspeople will be for sale.

A book fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and discussions with authors and critics will be offered.

Add the seasoning of information and lectures on whale sharks, marine turtles, literature, and a showcase of regional cuisine, and you get an event that will have something for everyone.

All festival events are free and open to the public. A program of events and performances is available. Voluntary donations are accepted at the various theatrical events. These donations go to restore and maintain historic performance venues in Todos Santos.—Karen Alvarado
