1,213 Pound Blue Marlin Caught in Cabo San Lucas!

Too big to weigh with one scale, calculation used…

Large Blue Marlin Caught in Cabo San Lucas

Large Blue Marlin Caught in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – The Pisces Group Cabo & Pisces Sportfishing are exclusively reporting that a 1,213 pound Blue Marlin was caught over a grueling duration of 28 hours beginning on Saturday, September 24th and ultimately reeling in the giant marlin to the boat on Sunday, September 25th.  The record is unofficial due to the change of anglers during the evening hours but all the same, this is one of the most massive marlin catches and possibly the biggest-ever recorded in Los Cabos, Mexico.

“That was the hardest thing I ever did in my life by far. I’ve shot bull moose and trekked out with 200 lbs on my back and it doesn’t even compare. It was the greatest experience of my life. I travel all around the world, Africa, Asia and nothing comes close to this”. Angler Richard Biehl,  Traverse City, MI

It is important to point out that the Blue Marlin was so large and heavy, an electronic scale had to be borrowed from another boat, which recorded 972 pounds.  Yet, the team of people could not get it completely raised from the floor from bill to tail.  Due to the weight, measurements were taken resulting in a recorded length of 137 inches (11 feet, 4 inches) without the bill and a girth of 75 inches  (6 feet, 3 inches).  Based on the commonly used formula, this gigantic Blue Marlin weighed in at an astonishing 1,213 pounds!

On the morning of September 24th, angler Richard Biehl from Traverse City, Missouri boarded a 31-foot Blackfin called, “Go Deep.”  Captain Luis Abaroa comes from a long line of fisherman and in each generation they have all landed fish over 1,000 pounds.  Yet, nothing compares to their enormous Blue Marlin catch over this past weekend.

Richard Biehl, the angler and lifelong fisherman is quoted as saying, “That was the hardest thing I ever did in my life by far.  I’ve shot bull moose and trekked out with 200 pounds on my back and it doesn’t even compare.  It was the greatest experience of my life!  I travel all around the world, Africa, Asia and more but nothing can even compare or come close to catching a monster Blue Marlin in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.”

Each year, beginning in July and August and up through December, the destination of Los Cabos is considered to be the hub for marlin deep sea fishing and even called, “The Black & Blue Marlin Capital of the World.”  Annually, in October, some of the world’s richest sportfishing tournaments and jackpots are hosted in Cabo San Lucas.  The destination has been the Mecca for fishermen and women from around the world, dating back to the 1950’s but really began growing in popularity over the last 30 years.  Proudly, Pisces Group Cabo and Pisces Sportfishing has been a cornerstone of the Los Cabos fishing community and the name is now known around the world.

Watch boats gently rock back and forth in the marina as you enjoy sushi and sake, or any of your favorite beverages from the full bar. The trio of tostadas with shrimp, salmon, and octopus has a delicious complexity of flavor. Fresh veggies adorn the wonton soup, enhanced by a touch of ginger. A fun list of rolls includes the Yamy with crab, the Big Hector with salmon, and one breaded and fried with cream cheese and crab ($10–$15 U.S.). Try the crunchy shrimp on skewers in a beer paste for $7.50 U.S. or the spicy noodle bowl with a variety of ingredients, averaging $10 U.S. Save room for coffee Jell-O with ice cream topped with Kahlúa and Baileys or tempura (fried) ice cream. The restaurant is open and airy, and you can choose between the attractive crisp red and white art deco interior (air-conditioned during summer) or alfresco.
