April 5, 2011:  A full moon guided over 350 jazz lovers to Club Campestre San Jose Beach Club on Friday, March 18, 2011 for Liga MAC’s 7th Annual JazzFest, raising more than $180,000 US for its community service programs in San Jose del Cabo. JazzFest is Liga MAC’s major annual fundraiser. Liga MAC (Mexican, American and Canadian League) was founded in 1997 to support underprivileged families in the San Jose del Cabo community of Los Cabos, Mexico.

This year’s JazzFest, “Music Under the Stars” showcased local and international jazz greats performing under a full moon in a magical starlit setting.

The Todd Clouser Trio, with Todd Clouser on guitar, Roberto Blanco on organ and Pedro Cervera on drums took the stage during the cocktail hour. The group, fresh from a 15-city U.S. tour, featured original music from Clouser’s latest CD release, “A Love Electric.” As guests moved to their tables for the dinner hour, The Daline Jones Trio, with Daline Jones on vocals, Diego Ramirez on keyboard and Luciano Callado on drums, performed their crowd-pleasing Latin Jazz standards and original compositions. Liga MAC president Jene Buckner then welcomed the crowd and graciously thanked JazzFest sponsors, paying special tribute to JazzFest’s five-time Headliner Sponsor, Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After a lavish Mexican buffet by Denni’s Catering of Cabo San Lucas, Liga MAC’s Executive Director Cynthia Wickerink and Centro de Apoyo Manager Blanca Roblero introduced high school students Oscar Rafael Baeza and Evelyn Gaxiola, and Fernando Romero, who will graduate law school in May 2011. All are scholarship students from ACE (Adelante Con la Educacion), Liga MAC’s educational support program. Romero, speaking in English, thanked the audience for their continued support. Romero’s family has received assistance from Liga MAC since 2002. To continue Liga MAC’s Medical Aid, Basic Needs, and ACE programs, Master of Ceremonies Byron Hill took the stage for MAC’s annual Pledge Drive, leading the audience to overwhelming support of its 2011-2012 fundraising goals.

Following the Pledge Drive, Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant’s Richard Erickson and Lowell Pickett introduced legendary Grammy-nominated percussionist Pete Escovedo and his 10-piece Latin Jazz Orchestra, topping off a memorable night of exceptional jazz stylings in an extraordinary setting.

Liga MAC’s valuable community service work will continue with the success of JazzFest 2011. Special thanks to event sponsors Amy Abbott Weddings and Events, Oxten, Del Cabo Event Design, Impala Taxi, Pictronica, Dakota Jazz Club and Restaurant, Club Campestre San Jose Beach Club; and to the many donors and volunteers whose contribution made Liga MAC’s JazzFest 2011 a resounding success.

Liga MAC A.C. is a registered Mexican charity dedicated to aiding low-income families in crisis in San Jose del Cabo by providing basic needs, medical aid and educational support.
