¡La Quinta Jornada de Cirugías Cardiacas de Mayo 2015
fue un rotundo éxito!
El equipo, liderado por el Dr. James Hammel, del Children’s Hospital and Medical Center en Omaha llegando a Los Cabos

Doce niños fueron sometidos a cirugías cardiacas técnicamente exitosas y seguras. Hubo diversos tipos de operaciones, desde la más “sencilla” hasta la muy compleja, y la mayoría de los pacientes eran muy pequeños, desde los 5 meses hasta los 6 años de edad.

El equipo visitante de 22 doctores, enfermeras, perfusionista, terapeuta respiratorio y traductoras vino en su totalidad del hospital Children’s Hospital and Medical Center de Omaha, Nebraska, E.U.

El equipo de quirófano mexicano incluyó una perfusionista pediatra, un cirujano cardiaco, una residente de cirugía en formación, y enfermeras instrumentistas y circulantes con experiencia cardiaca, cada uno trabajando 1 a 1 con su contraparte de Omaha. De esta forma, se aprovechó la gran oportunidad de capacitación para los profesionales que construirán un programa de cardiología pediátrica autosuficiente en nuestro estado.

Una nueva y más moderna máquina cardiopulmonar fue donada al programa y puesta en uso a tiempo para la segunda mitad de las operaciones realizadas en esta jornada.

El Banco de Sangre fue llamado a la acción y se probó por primera vez con una cirugía excepcionalmente difícil que duró 10 horas y requirió 16 unidades de sangre. Varios miembros del equipo del Dr. Hammel señalaron que el esfuerzo, cooperación y tiempo de respuesta del personal del Banco de Sangre fueron igual o superiores al apoyo que reciben en su hospital en Omaha.

19th Annual Stars & Stripes Tournament Adds “The Red Rocker” Sammy Hagar to Its Saturday Night Themed Dinner and Live Music Extravaganza 2015
The Stars & Stripes fishing, golfing and music adventure in Mexico expects to net more than $3 million this year for Orange County youth organizations
LAGUNA HILLS, Calif. — With the coast of Cabo San Lucas providing a stunning backdrop, the organizers of the Stars & Stripes Tournament are upping the ante this year, recruiting Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Sammy Hagar to headline the event’s famed dinner and music entertainment on Saturday, June 27, 2015. In addition, backers of the fishing, golf and music fundraiser in Mexico have set $3 million as their fundraising goal, which would push the figure of total funds raised since 1997 to more than $23 million.
“We are proud that we have evolved Stars & Stripes into the top-grossing national fishing tournaments benefiting children’s charities,” said Stars & Stripes Board Chairman Dick Gebhard. “This year, we’re even more energized to deliver a one-of-a-kind adventure to the teams participating and donate record-breaking funds to our partner Orange County children’s charities.”
Member of the Stars & Stripes elected, volunteer board of directors, “The Knights,” Tim Ryan, CEO of the Honda Center and executive vice president of the Anaheim Ducks, with Carlos Leija, Chief Development Officer of Santa Ana-based Orangewood Children’s Foundation, and Al Baldwin.
The 2015 grantees are Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Miracles For Kids, Orangewood Children’s Foundation/The Academy, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Homeaid Orange County, Soldiers’ Angels and Building Baja’s Future.
Organizers expect more than 600 people to reel and putt during the four-day adventure, held June 25-28, 2015 at the Hilton Los Cabos Beach & Golf Resort in Mexico.
Named after the children it helps — the real stars of the tournament — and the striped marlin in the Sea of Cortez, Stars & Stripes began in 1997 as a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County. Dick Gebhard came up with the idea when he was a board member for the nonprofit organization, as he wanted to create a fundraiser unlike any other and combine fishing, golfing and music.
