Los Cabos Humane Society Wall of Hope

los-cabos-humane-societyBusinesses and individuals everywhere are invited to to become part of our Wall of Hope. We have just begun long overdue renovations at the Shelter.

los-cabos-humane-society.wall-of-hopeThe LOS CABOS HUMANE SOCIETY & ADOPTION CENTER is dedicated to providing the community with animal control services and to creating an environment free of homeless dogs and cats. Our Goal is to inspire and mobilize our community to create a society that promotes respect and responsibility towards animal life. This alone is the means to fight the health problem generated by the overpopulation of wandering street pets and homeless animals. We receive NO government assistance. We depend entirely on donations. The Los Cabos Humane Society is operating as the only form of animal protection and control. The growth of our area demands that we constantly improve our service. Your generosity will help us to meet the challenge.

Once again this tremendous success was built on the collaboration and hard work of many individuals and organizations contributing their talents, time and resources to make a difference! We extend an enormous thanks to each of the individuals and organizations who contributed to save the lives of these little ones.

We would like to send out a very special thanks for the work of the medical staff, Salvatierra in La Paz and the Children’s Hospital of Omaha, who brought to the program the high level of expertise necessary to perform these heart repairs. In addition, a special salute to the dedicated logistical team of LCCF who kept all the various gears and wheels of the project turning smoothly. Corazón de Niño did a fabulous job moving the parents and children from their homes across the state to their evaluations and surgeries, coordinating the food and comfort of the families both pre and post operation. The Heart Heroes joined us again for this round and provided parent emotional support and guidance to the parents as to the surgery process as well as providing colorful capes to our little heart heroes.

Please stay tuned over the next few weeks as we post the photos and stories of this round through our social media, Facebook and Blog. We would like you to share with us the miracle of the Spirit of Love in these stories and interviews.

8th Annual Fred Duckett Challenge Golf Tournament 2014

COMING IN MARCH 2014 , THE LCCF 8th ANNUAL
FRED DUCKETT CHALLENGE GOLF TOURNAMENT

Splendid Golf with a Great Big Heart!

fred-duckett-challenge-8th-annualThe Los Cabos Children’s Foundation’s signature fundraiser of the year will take place at the exclusive Querencia and Palmilla Golf Courses in San Jose del Cabo the weekend of March 20-22, 2014.

As one of Cabo’s most anticipated annual charity events of the season for golfers and non-golfers alike, “The Fred Duckett Challenge” is enjoyed by growing numbers of golfers, social attendees and lucky vacationers who have discovered this fun-packed week-end!  Every year more and more golfers and their significant others are joining the fun, finding world-class golf on two of the most beautiful ocean-front courses in this hemisphere, fabulous people, a perfect climate, exquisite dining, heartfelt giving for a most worthwhile charity, cultural activities…..and all of this packed-in with a stunning view of the turquoise- blue waters of the Sea of Cortez!

Great Golf and Celebrations

Along with three days of first-class golf, entertainment, dining and events are planned at the top-ranked Querencia Country Club links and the world-renowned One and Only Palmilla Golf Club.  Enjoy lavish haute cuisine evenings, including a gourmet dinner of authentic Mexican Gastronomy, with the unique touch of Chef/Owner Tadd Chapman, at the Don Sanchez Restaurant in the heart of San Jose del Cabo.  All of the exciting activities programmed for golfers, and their companions as well, will lead up to a Grand Gala under the stars at Querencia, with head-liner entertainment “The World’s Greatest Hits—Live”, a star-studded reunion of musicians from world-famous bands such as Santana, Chicago, and the Elton John Band.  The excitement will be high when the champions of the 3-day tournament are rewarded with their corresponding trophies and then a very soul-stirring video presentation of LCCF’s work with the children in the local community, regally round out this remarkable weekend of sport, celebration and heartfelt giving.

Here’s the Great Big Heart

Proceeds benefit the Los Cabos Children’s Foundation (LCCF) founded ten years ago by South Dakota/Cabo philanthropist Tom Walsh, and whose mission is:  “To provide medical, educational and humanitarian assistance to the children, their families and supportive organizations of the Los Cabos area”.  What started out as a solution for a few local children suffering from cancer has now grown into an organization that is facilitating improved health care and a better quality of life for local children of low-income families on a much greater scale.  Working in solidarity with the Baja California Sur State Government, US hospitals, foundations and local non-profit organizations, the 10 year old Spirit of Joy Children’s Cancer Program, founded by LCCF, moved into a new home in the Salvatierra Hospital in La Paz and was inaugurated earlier this year.  Children battling cancer no longer need to leave the state, or the country, now, to receive the critical care they need.

In June of last year, LCCF began its local cardio/pediatriac surgery program for children with congenital heart defects and completed the first ten open heart surgeries ever done in the state. During the first week of December 2013, another eleven surgeries and six critical catherizations were completed successfully by chief cardiac surgeon Dr. James Hammel, from the Children’s Hospital of Omaha, Nebraska, together with his team of 22 eminent children’s surgical specialists.  There are few things in this world that are more heart-wrenching than to talk to some of these children who are very sad and depressed,  due to their mal-functioning heart, on one day, and only a few days later, after their surgery, are running around the hospital corridors, so incredibly changed, and so happy, in their “Heart Heroes” capes that this organization gives to each child after their operations.  Anyone’s heart will be touched and their soul will be warmed to see how important this help is for these families, without which, many of these children would not live to see their next birthday.

In addition to these two major programs, in 2013 more than 350 thousand dollars were granted by LCCF to local qualified nonprofits that are doing the critical day-to-day hands-on work so needed in our local communities.

For Non-golfers, too!

An exciting number of activities for non-golfing partners during the day on both Friday and Saturday have been planned.  A must see, and favorite each year, is the Friday morning guided bus tour of the children’s “hands-on” health organizations assisted through LCCF grants.  In addition, thrilling whale watching trips will be offered each day, as well as Spa Services every day, also; and cooking classes, featuring the executive chefs from the Don Sanchez Restaurant, as well as Larbi Darouch, of the One & Only Palmilla Resort.  We encourage all attendees to schedule activities prior to your arrival at The Duckett to ensure that space is available for each tour and event.
