CARLOS SUGICH IS VICE-CHAIR FOR ABA MEXICO COMMITTEE
Snell & Wilmer partner began term on August 4
PHOENIX, AZ (August 14, 2009) — Carlos A. Sugich has been appointed to serve a one-year term as Vice-Chair of the Mexico Committee of the American Bar Association Section of International Law. The Mexico Committee is involved in the full spectrum of U.S.-Mexican legal issues, as well as relevant aspects of internal Mexican Law. As an example, the Committee intends to spend time during the coming year exploring the impact of a recent decision by the Mexican Supreme Court concerning arbitration. The leadership team of the Mexico Committee is responsible for strengthening relationships with the Mexican Bar and other Mexican legal institutions through sponsorship of significant events and timely communication; production of a year-in-review article for The International Lawyer; retention and recruitment of members; and serving as ambassadors to other ABA sections and outside organizations.
Carlos A. Sugich, who is admitted to practice law in both the United States and Mexico, is a partner in the Phoenix, Arizona office of Snell & Wilmer L.L.P. and also serves as co-manager of the firm’s office in Los Cabos, Mexico. He received his juris doctor degree cum laude from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara School of Law, where he was awarded a “Distinguished Student” Honors Diploma, and an LL.M. in International Economic Law Transactions from New York University School of Law.
A frequent speaker and author, Sugich’s law practice is concentrated in the areas of real estate investment, development, leasing and financing in both the U.S and Mexico. He regularly advises clients in the documentation and organization of international ventures and represents U.S. and international clients setting up operations or doing business in Arizona and Mexico. Sugich has experience with NAFTA regulation, foreign investment regulated by the U.S. and Mexican governments, and cross-border dispute settlement.
