Heroic Defense of Veracruz, Heroica Defensa de Veracruz

April 21 – Heroica Defensa de Veracruz – Heroic Defense of Veracruz
This holiday commemorates Mexico’s defending itself against the United States of America  occupation of Veracruz, México in 1914.

1914-occupation-of-veracruzThe United States occupation of Veracruz, which began with the Battle of Veracruz, the chief port on the east coast of Mexico, lasted for six months and was a response to the Tampico Affair of April 9, 1914. The incident came in the midst of poor diplomatic relations between Mexico and the United States, and was related to the ongoing Mexican Revolution.

The Vera Cruz incident threatened to boil over into a new Mexican War—a conflict desired by neither the United States nor Mexico. Argentina, Brazil and Chile saved the day by offering mediation. The ABC nations arranged a meeting in Niagara Falls, Canada in May 1914, drawing together representatives from the U.S. and Mexico.

Good Friday is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday,or Easter Friday though the latter properly refers to the Friday in Easter week.

HOLY THURSDAY is the most complex and profound of all religious observances, saving only the Easter Vigil. It celebrates both the institution by Christ himself of the Eucharist and of the institution of the sacerdotal priesthood (as distinct from the ‘priesthood of all believers’) for in this, His last supper with the disciples, a celebration of Passover, He is the self-offered Passover Victim, and every ordained priest to this day presents this same sacrifice, by Christ’s authority and command, in exactly the same way. The Last Supper was also Christ’s farewell to His assembled disciples, some of whom would betray, desert or deny Him before the sun rose again. https://www.catholic.org/clife/lent/thurs.php

One of Mexico’s biggest celebrations is Easter Sunday (Domingo de Pascua), which remembers the biblical story of when Jesus rose from death.

Easter is a Christian festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion at Calvary as described in the New Testament.[2][3] Easter is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter
